Job Description

Job Description The Instrumentation Technician supports critical Air Force test and evaluation missions by planning, developing, modifying, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced airborne instrumentation systems installed on tactical aircraft platforms including, but not limited to, the F-15E, F-16, F-22, and F-35. This role applies emerging technologies to enhance and expand specialized instrumentation capabilities and supports the full mission lifecycle, including pre-mission integration, operational execution, and post-mission data capture and analysis. The position requires close collaboration with government and contractor personnel across Operations, Aircraft Maintenance, and test support organizations to ensure mission readiness, data integrity, and operational reliability. All duties are performed on site in a secure environment at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.

Roles and Responsibilities

·        Plan, develop, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain airborne instrumentation systems in support of test and evaluation missions.

·        Perform calibration, functional verification, and troubleshooting of instrumentation systems, including video recording, digital data recording, weapons function monitoring, telemetry, and other data collection systems.

·        Integrate, configure, and operate instrumentation systems prior to, during, and following operational missions, including mission setup and post-mission data capture.

·        Apply practical knowledge of electronic principles and practices using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, telemetry systems, PLA/PLC programmers, oscillators, amplifiers, and power supplies.

·        Interpret and apply technical data, including drawings, schematics, blueprints, and system specifications.

·        Coordinate instrumentation requirements, schedules, and work plans with Operations organizations and Aircraft Maintenance Units to verify mission readiness.

·        Support modification and operations activities, including moving, storing, loading, and configuring instrumentation systems, conducting cockpit integrity checks, and performing data uploads and downloads.

·        Coordinate with test support personnel to plan, execute, and analyze test results and ensure instrumentation compatibility with data reduction capabilities.

·        Monitor data validity and assess the operational dependability and performance of instrumentation systems.

·        Provide technical guidance and leadership to other technicians and support personnel, as appropriate to experience level.

·        Design, develop, and integrate nonconventional modification hardware to expand instrumentation system capabilities when required.

Requirements

Minimum Education, Experience, and Clearance Requirements

·        Level I: High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of general aircraft maintenance experience.

·        Level II: High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years of aircraft instrumentation system experience.

·        Level III: High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of ten years of aircraft instrumentation system experience.

·        An active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance is required.

·        Education and experience substitutions are permitted as follows:

o   High school diploma plus four additional years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

o   Associate’s degree plus two additional years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

o   Bachelor’s degree plus two additional years of experience may substitute for a master’s degree.

o   Master’s degree plus three additional years of experience may substitute for a doctoral degree.
