Serve as a Technical Specialist working on the Duck Creek Insurance Platform, responsible for the design, configuration, and extension of core insurance systems supporting Policy, Billing, and Claims workflows. This role focuses on delivering compliant, scalable insurance products by configuring platform capabilities, extending business logic, and integrating with enterprise systems.
You will partner closely with product managers, business analysts, QA, and integration teams to implement rules, forms, transactions, and APIs, applying industry best practices and modern integration patterns while working within the Duck Creek ecosystem.
The selected candidate will be required to work a hybrid schedule (3 days in office / 2 remote) from our Cincinnati, OH or Dallas, TX office. No relocation assistance is offered for this role.
Key Accountabilities & Deliverables
Configure insurance product models—including lines, coverages, underwriting rules, rating factors, and forms—using platform configuration tools to meet business and regulatory requirements.
Build and customize transactional behaviors supporting key policy lifecycle events such as quote, issue, endorsement, renewal, and cancellation.
Develop, test, and optimize rules and logic that automate underwriting decisions and pricing calculations.
Design and generate policy documents and outputs (e.g., declarations, endorsements) using XML/XSLT- or template‑driven form technologies.
Design and implement integrations between the core insurance platform and external systems (e.g., rating services, claims vendors, finance/GL, document management, data platforms) using APIs and open standards.
Contribute to platform design decisions with a focus on maintainability, performance, and scalability; conduct peer reviews and mentor junior team members.
Produce unit and integration tests, collaborate with QA on automation approaches, and support high‑quality releases with minimal defect leakage.
Manage and optimize SQL Server database objects and operational processes, including batch jobs, data fixes, and environment support activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
Experience configuring or extending enterprise insurance or policy administration platforms, including transactional workflows, rules engines, forms, and integrations.
Solid understanding of insurance domain concepts, such as policy lifecycle, rating and underwriting, billing events, and claims fundamentals preferred.
Experience designing or consuming APIs and supporting system‑to‑system integrations.
Proficiency with SQL / SQL Server, including schema understanding, writing and tuning queries, and supporting batch or operational processes.
Working knowledge of XML, XSLT, and HTML commonly used for document generation, integrations, or platform customization.
Strong collaboration skills with business users, QA teams, and external vendors.
Required Experience & Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
5+ years of experience implementing, configuring, or extending enterprise insurance platforms, policy administration systems, or comparable commercial off‑the‑shelf (COTS) platforms.
Proven experience leading or contributing to configuration and enhancement efforts for multiple insurance products is preferred.
Hands‑on experience supporting Policy, Billing, or Claims systems, including rules, transactions, forms, and integrations preferred.
Experience working on or delivering solutions built on the Duck Creek platform—or similar insurance platforms—is preferred.
Exposure to API‑first, headless, or modern integration architectures is preferred.
Familiarity with cloud or SaaS delivery models, including upgrade‑friendly design and operational constraints, is a plus.
Demonstrated mentoring or technical leadership experience, including code/configuration reviews and delivery ownership.
