Davis Behavioral Health is actively recruiting a full-time Intensive Services Outpatient Therapist to work on Adult Mental Health team. This position will be based out of the DBH Layton office; however, the majority of the work will be conducted in the community throughout Davis County.

The Intensive Outpatient Therapist provides office and community-based mental health services to high-acuity clients, including individuals who are involuntarily committed, dual diagnosis clients, Assertive Outreach Treatment (AOT) participants, and housing-involved individuals. This position plays a key role in evaluation, treatment planning, outreach, and cross-team collaboration to ensure continuity of care across programs.

The therapist functions as an integrated member of the mental health outpatient team and related service systems, with responsibility for both direct clinical services, family engagement and system coordination.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and diagnosis as appropriate.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans consisting of mutually agreed upon goals and objectives and update as needed.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based interventions to decrease symptoms and improve functioning.
  • Maintain agency standards for productivity and documentation.
  • Coordinate with other staff and community agencies as needed to provide effective care.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and regularly scheduled supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position-specific Job Functions

In addition to the essential job functions outlined above, the following responsibilities are assigned to your specific position.

Committed Client Services

  • Act as the primary clinician for mental health evaluations for committed clients.
  • Serve involuntarily committed clients who are recommended for ongoing treatment.
  • Provide ongoing assessment, stabilization, and treatment planning for this population.

Individual and Group Therapy & Caseload Management

  • Maintain caseload of approximately 60-80 clients.
  • Facilitate dual diagnosis groups addressing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment with demonstrated competency in psychosis and trauma-informed care.
  • Incorporate family members and natural supports into treatment interventions when clinically appropriate, including family psychoeducation, collateral sessions, and family-inclusive treatment planning.

Family Engagement & Support

  • Provide psychoeducation regarding mental illness, psychosis, trauma, substance use, and recovery principles and civil commitment.
  • Facilitate family sessions to improve communication, reduce relapse risk, and support treatment adherence.
  • Coordinate with families during periods of crisis, hospitalization, or transition in care.

Housing & Treatment Plan Oversight

  • Complete treatment plan updates and treatment recommendations for non-assigned housing clients.
  • Coordinate care planning efforts for housing-involved clients.

AOT & Community Outreach

  • Conduct community-based services, including outreach to locate and engage AOT and housing clients.
  • Deliver services in community settings as clinically appropriate.
  • Support continuity of care for clients in the north end of the county as needed, including assisting with mental health outpatient service needs as required.

Team Integration & Collaboration

  • Attend team staff meetings to ensure coordination of care.
  • Collaborate with case managers, prescribers, housing teams, and court systems as applicable.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary staffing and care coordination efforts.
  • Other duties and responsibilities and needed and assigned.

Employment Classification and Schedule

Work schedules at DBH are established to meet the needs of our clients and the agency. Program Supervisors, with the approval of Program Directors, determine the specific schedules for their assigned departments and have the authority to ask employees to work a different shift and/or in a different location on a short-term or permanent basis to meet the departments' needs.

Full-time employees are required to work 40 hours per week.

Location & Work Environment

The office for the Intensive Outpatient Therapist is located in the DBH Layton Clinic located at 2250 North 1700 West, Layton, UT 84041.

This position operates in a combination of office-based and community-based settings. Services may be delivered in outpatient clinics, client homes, court settings, hospitals and other community locations as clinically indicated. This role requires flexibility in scheduling to meet client and program needs and may include travel within the county for outreach and community-based service delivery. It may require the use of a personal vehicle; mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with organizational policies.

Compensation

This position is classified as full-time, exempt. This position is eligible for a hybrid base rate salary plus incentive model if the candidate is interested.

Base RateThe base rate for fully licensed clinicians is calculated with a starting annual rate of $77,000 plus credit for years of full-licensure experience as defined below:

  • $77,000.00 to $88,000.00 per year is the approved base rate range
  • 1% per year for each year of full licensure
  • $3,000 Spanish-language incentive annual stipend (paid bi-weekly) available. Must pass a Spanish assessment.
  • The compensation for under licensed clinicians (CSW, ACMHC) is $65,000.00 per year.

Incentive Payment OptionDBH has implemented a salary + incentive model to help improve access to mental health services. Employees who choose to participate in this compensation model will receive a per service incentive for all direct service hours provided during each pay period at the following rates:

  • $45 per service for services 49-60 in a pay period
  • $50 per services for all services 61 and beyond

Clinical documentation for all services completed during each 2-week pay period must be completed no later than 12:00 am on the Monday following the end of a pay cycle to receive payment for services provided during the period. While this program is designed for clinicians working in an outpatient mental health program, clinicians who are interested in participating in this program may develop and present a plan on how they can help improve access and have it reviewed by their Program Director and the DBH Clinical Director for approval. Certain positions at DBH may not be approved for this position due to the nature of their core job and the essential duties assigned to that position.

Required Qualifications

Education

Master's degree in social work or related field from an accredited university that qualifies for professional clinical licensure post-graduation.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current licensure in the State of Utah as an LCSW, CMHC, or MFT is strongly preferred due to the independent nature of this position.
    • Position may be under-filled by an individual who is licensed in the State of Utah as a CSW, ACMHC, or AMFT who is nearing completion of full clinical licensure.
  • Current certification as a Designated Examiner (DE) is strongly preferred. Candidates who are eligible but not yet certified will be required to obtain certification following hire.
    • DE certification is required once eligibility criteria are met.

  • Welle
  • First Aid/CRP
  • All mandatory training required by DHHS and DBH policy must be completed by established deadlines.

Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience in completing behavioral assessments and providing clinical care to individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders, including psychosis.
  • Experience working with involuntarily committed clients and familiarity with civil commitment statues and processes is required.
  • Experience in crisis intervention is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in dual diagnosis treatment is highly desirable.

Skills & Abilities

  • Clinical expertise in screening, assessments, diagnosis, and crisis intervention is required.
  • Must have skills in working with SPMI populations, substance use, and with individuals and families undergoing episodes of psychiatric distress.
  • Good organizational and practice management skills are critical.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team setting is necessary.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to motivate and engage individuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other staff and community agencies is mandatory.

Physical Demands

The employee be able to drive & must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record to be covered by DBH insurance. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach, carry, and kneel. The employee must be able to walk on uneven surfaces and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally move or lift 25-50 pounds. The employee must be able to sit at computer workstations for up to 3 hours a day. The employee must be able to stand to speak in public.
