Job Description:

The Anesthesia and Analgesia Internship at Louisiana State University, School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is designed to provide one year of post-DVM training in Anesthesia and Analgesia.

Job Responsibilities:

90%-To provide advanced training in clinical problem solving and diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in Anesthesia to provide didactic and tutorial teaching training and experience, to provide experience in scientific and clinical case presentation through the seminar and house officer rounds program, to provide experience in the preparation and submission of scientific articles for publication and/or presentation, to provide experience in designing and conducting a clinical research project, to provide opportunity to participate in graduate level courses that support and strengthen the clinical training program and obtain an advanced academic degree, M.S. or Ph.D.

10%-Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

DVM or Equivalent AND Successful completion of a one-year internship or equivalent related veterinary experience.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

NAVLE Required for Licensure or to start the program

Job Competencies:

  • Handling dogs and cats. Preferably, have a notion how handle horses and farm animals (Proficient)
  • IV catheterization in the majority of companion animals (Proficient)
  • Knowledge of anesthetic drugs' pharmacology (Proficient)
  • Proficient in dealing with dogs and cats in cardiovascular, volume, or anaphylaxis shock (Proficient)
  • Good foundation knowledge in pathophysiology of SA and LA (Proficient)

Additional Job Description:

Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
