Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Process and/or Product Engineering Intern will assist with process and product engineering activities including but not limited to documentation of tooling packages, improvements in inventory management, analyze historical data, projects in CAD work as needed, weld/repair tooling, program and design fixtures, as well as approve current products at our facilities, engineering changes to print and models, and component testing and validation. implantation of new products, approval of current products at our facilities, engineering changes to print and models, and component testing and validation. As a Process or and Product Engineering Intern, you will be assisting in the overall engineering success in your assigned area of engineering focus. This Engineering Intern will work closely with Quality, Operations, and other Engineering departments to facilitate business growth through exciting projects throughout the internship.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without accommodation.
- Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program
- Follow relevant project management procedures for new and existing machine systems and modifications, installations, and upgrades including the creation and maintenance of current documentation processes and operating procedures
- Assists with engineering support for maintenance and operations in troubleshooting, rebuilding, and repairing of equipment and tooling
- Assists operation in employee development and help with continual improvements of the operations
- Learn and follow program management and design principles needed to ensure proper documentation and validation completion
- Work with our test lab to develop test plans, reports, and follow up action to approve and validate designs and products for production
- Work with Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to resolve downtime issues within the facility
- Assist in planning and implementing of new products into production within the Petersburg facility
- Assist in validating and approving current products at facilities within other Amsted Rail Bearings and Seals facilities and partners
- Learn and follow Program Management and product design principles needed to ensure proper documentation and validation completion
What we are looking for:
- In process of earning a bachelor's degree, in engineering, entering Junior or Senior year
- Some experience with CAD, preferably SolidWorks

- Must have an innovative mindset and be willing to contribute new ideas, be willing to take acceptable risks, and follow through to completion
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as a member of a team
- Must be very approachable and able to develop strong professional relationships and foster communication inside and outside of the engineering organization
- Must possess high energy and be highly adaptable to work in a nimble, innovative, and fast paced environment that supports a culture of continuous learning and development
To be considered a candidate must be able to meet the following qualifications:
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening
- Lift, push & pull 10 to 50 lbs.
- Wear department required, employer provided, personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Be able to regularly stand and move throughout the department and shift
