Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is seeking students to enroll in intern program for positions in Operations Design. The program's goals are to attract, develop, and retain high-potential two-year degree students. Upon graduation and successful completion of our program, they may be eligible for consideration for a full-time position in one of DESC's core businesses.

Students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in the field of electric, gas, and power generation operations which will prepare them, upon graduation, to compete for entry-level, professional positions in the utility industry.

  • Planning and designing electric transmission and distribution systems
  • Preparing detailed drawings
  • Supporting field operations in performing a variety of equipment and systems testing; supporting design studies and analysis related to electric, gas, and other projects
  • Monitoring the installation and operation of various utility-scale projects
  • Reviewing and supporting project schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and providing status reports.
  • Supporting restoration efforts following storms and other power/gas outage events.

2027 Summer and fall positions are planned in the following areas:

  • Electric Distribution Operations
  • Relay
  • Electrical Ops Tech AP
  • Joint Attachments
  • Gas Operations - Distribution Engineering & Construction
  • Gas System Planning & Hydraulic Modeling
  • Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS) - Pipeline Integrity Management

Student applicants will be interviewed and placed into varying roles at Dominion Energy based on organizational fit and student interest. Internship opportunities will last for approximately 12 weeks during the summer or fall. Part-time opportunities are also available (based on company needs and student schedule)

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned work location and have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to move about freely and perform field work in challenging environments.
  • Must have strong computer knowledge and skills with demonstrated ability to learn and utilize Microsoft Office products.
  • Students must also have demonstrated ability to learn and utilize AutoCAD and GIS products.
  • Must be able to travel and work outside of normal business hours throughout the company's service territory.

Education Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an Associate's degree program in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above

Hourly Rate:

$22.00 - $24.00

The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
