Position Overview:

This position reports to a Systems Engineering Team Lead and will collaborate with Systems Engineers and other technical teams. This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, support, automation, and continuous improvement of NISC's internal systems, DevOps workflows, deployment processes, and infrastructure. Interns will gain hands-on experience working with enterprise systems, Linux environments, automation tools, monitoring solutions, and application deployment processes. Based on intern interest and business needs, opportunities may exist to explore areas such as DevOps, system administration, scripting, cloud technologies, and infrastructure operations. Adaptability and a willingness to learn are essential.

Work Schedule: 

  • Hybrid from one of our office locations: 
    • Lake Saint Louis, MO
    • Mandan, ND 
  • Requirement: Minimum of working 3 days per week out of an office location and ability to work up to all 5 days a week from an office location.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with research, maintenance, and support of enterprise systems and technical workflows.
  • Assists with troubleshooting technical issues and validating system changes or enhancements.
  • Supports system monitoring, application deployment, and configuration management activities.
  • Contributes to scripting and automation efforts that improve team efficiency and operational processes.
  • Assists in maintaining and documenting DevOps workflows, system procedures, and technical processes.
  • Performs quality testing and validation of infrastructure, deployment, or automation-related tasks as assigned.
  • Reviews and prioritizes assigned tasks and change requests with guidance from team members.
  • Ensures that all information is appropriately entered and utilized in Confluence and/or other team management tools.

Desired Job Experience:

  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Familiarity with Object Oriented Concepts & Languages (Java and it's frameworks, preferred).
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command line environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts, source control systems, and CI/CD processes.
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP networking concepts and troubleshooting fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and database fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and infrastructure concepts (AWS preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to change.
  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, ethical behavior, and confidentiality.

Desired Education and/or Certification(s):

  • ​​High School diploma or equivalency required
  • Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in a Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
