Position Summary:The position of the Environmental Health and Safety Intern performs a variety of functions to assist in maintaining and preserving the health and safety of employees as well as the environment. This individual will be responsible for assisting in developing and maintaining existing systems related to plant safety, environmental control processes, regulatory compliance, and training. 

FLSA: Non-exempt

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assists in compliance with Hazardous/Universal Waste regulations. May have to move drums.
• Assist in developing safety training, including hazard communications, new employee safety orientation, lead awareness, hearing conservation, hazardous waste, fire extinguisher, CPR and first aid, and bloodborne pathogens.
• Perform safety audits and inspections.
• Performs various office functions and other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or similar scientific major. 
• Fluent in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards or willing to learn.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.

Working Conditions:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
• Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
• Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
