POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: International Programs Peace Lovelace Fellow
JOB CATEGORY: Non-Exempt (Salary)
STATUS: Full-Time, 35 hours per week
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Specific Term (one-year period, with possibility for extension)
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Peacebuilding Director, International Programs
REGION/UNIT: International Programs
LOCATION: International, Commutable to AFSC office or Remote.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
The International Programs (IP) fellow will work closely with the IP staff to provide analytical, programmatic, administrative, and organizational support to further the peacebuilding goals articulated in AFSC's 2020-2030 strategic plan. This includes support for AFSC's global just and sustainable peace work, global peacebuilding convening through the Dialogue and Exchange Program (DEP), support for other work relating to AFSC's Just Peace theme, including country-based work and coordination with US peace programs. The fellow will also support AFSC's efforts to influence the wider international peacebuilding system and help to establish strong global peacebuilding partnerships and alliances.
The Just Peace goals include a vision for high-impact peacebuilding, to change the narrative around militarism and violence, the development and popular acceptance of alternatives to violence, influencing key decision‐makers and non‐traditional allies globally to choose peaceful transformation of conflict, protecting civic rights, amplifying civil society, and building social cohesion.
A more specific work plan and key responsibilities will be agreed upon at the beginning of the fellow's assignment with AFSC. Broadly speaking, this will include the following key tasks
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Track and monitor existing and emerging resources, innovations, and best practices globally and in the US around peacebuilding and civic rights and build and maintain a resource management system.
- Develop case studies, online tools, events, learning sessions, and presentations with IP staff.
- Support the IP Peacebuilding Director in efforts and events to strengthen AFSC partnerships with global peacebuilding actors and organizations, and help coordinate with AFSC's US peacebuilding work.
- Support the coordination and management of AFSC's Global Dialogue and Exchange Program.
- Work with the IP Peacebuilding Director, IP Associate General Secretary, IP Director of Program Administration, Regional Directors, and program staff across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America to support information, knowledge management (via Star Café and SharePoint), and training activities around AFSC's peacebuilding goals.
- Support virtual convening logistics, including providing technical support using online communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams); identifying translation needs; communicating and coordinating with participants, facilitators, or panelists; and supporting the monitoring and reporting of virtual events.
- Support the IP team to design and develop content for the internal newsletters and communications.
- Support design, monitoring, evaluation and learning efforts and reporting requirements of the IP Team.
- Take notes during team meetings and share key points and actions items discussed.
Fellow Learning Goal
The Fellow will gain capacity in the following areas:
- Enhance skills for developing tools and research that produce high quality, actionable and shareable information.
- Learn essential skills for operationalizing strategic goals in a nonprofit program management context.
- Develop an understanding of the challenges and opportunities present in designing effective peace and civic rights programs for the transformation of systems of oppression around the world.
- Drafting and finalizing professional reports and presentations.
- Qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and presentation
- Program approaches in peacebuilding thematic areas: migration, political and organized violence, business and peace, election violence prevention, and overall approach on changing the narrative on militarism.
- Cross-cultural communications with staff.
- International non-profit program management and culture.
- Innovative international peacebuilding initiatives and strategies.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Education Required: Graduate degree or the equivalent. Related experience in social policy, peace studies, conflict resolution, political science, international relations, law, or a related area studies field is required.
- Minimum Experience: A minimum of 2 years' experience would be required.
- Strong reading, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Strong analysis and research skills, and the ability to distil key points/themes out of large amounts of information.
- A systems thinking mindset and willingness to embrace complexity; strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to ongoing learning.
- Experience with peacebuilding themes and issues relevant to AFSC's work; an understanding of the political sensitivities of global peacebuilding work in the current geopolitical environment.
- Practical experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based platforms, such as MS Teams, Zoom. Experience with online collaboration tools (such as Mural, online whiteboards, and other collaboration options) is an advantage.
- Ability to work both self-directed and independently, and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience with long-distance collaboration, remote working arrangements and related requirements for communication and coordination.
- Excellent oral and written English language skills, including the ability to clearly document work and write reports.
- Ability to prioritize workload and yet remain flexible to shifting needs and changing situations.
- Flexibility to adjust work schedule to different time zones across AFSC's international program regions (Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations of AFSC regarding issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff and demonstrated cultural sensitivity
Other Required Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research and analysis a plus.
- International non-profit experience and experience living and working in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, or Latin America a plus.
- Experience in designing or facilitating training and/or multi-stakeholder processes (in person or online) a plus.
- Knowledge of or fluency in one other United Nations language a plus.

COMPENSATION
The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package. This position is Salary Family: Fellow, Job Code: Fellow, Salary: US $42,400 plus Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan and other benefits including vacation, PTO, and holidays.
