Job Description
Position Summary:
The Inventory and Pricing Analyst provides analytical support for the company’s petroleum Wholesale Division. Reporting to the Manager of Hedging and Supply, this position supports operational and sales staff with pricing analysis for large commercial business, provides ongoing analysis for the execution for the company’s supply plan with a focus on rail activities, and assists in the execution and analysis of the company’s supply, pricing, and hedging activities.
Essential Functions:
- Preparation of annual, monthly and ad-hoc analysis as necessary to support the Company’s liquid product wholesale and hedging activities.
- Assesses improvement opportunities and drives change in company practices when there is an opportunity for pricing & supply chain process improvements.
- Acts as liaison between the wholesale and the accounting departments so that information is accounted for in an accurate and timely manner.
- Daily review of the competitive marketplace to identify opportunities for the supply plan.
- Coordination of the supply plan with Dead River Transport.
- Monitoring and analysis of petroleum market indices and trends.
- Assists with the execution and analysis of the hedge strategy and how it relates to the physical markets.
- Assists with the execution of the Company’s liquid product pricing systems.
- Responsibility for data input and accuracy of rail car logistics and accounting systems.
- Coordination of communications with external rail service providers and throughput customers.
- Logistical coordination and communication of monthly propane obligations with propane rail suppliers.
- Assists the company’s operations and sales teams with fixed price quotes and bid proposals.
- Maintain integrity of data in ERP and ETRM systems, performing regular analysis to support trading, pricing, and financial processes
Other Tasks:
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Participates in special projects as needed.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years analytical experience in a high transaction volume industry such as commodities, wholesale, transportation or banking preferred.
Other Attributes Required:
- Sound comprehension and use of business analytics.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Advanced skill with MS Office applications, particularly Excel, and solid database skills.
- Understanding of financial statement analysis.
- Familiarity with SQL and Power BI for data querying and analysis
- Highly effective communicator
- Solid planning and scheduling skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field is required.
Certification or Licensing:
Series 3 or CMA designation is preferred.
Contacts:
There is frequent communication with the Manager of Hedging and Supply, Wholesale Pricing Manager, Manager of Wholesale Administration, Manager of Wholesale Operations, and the Transport Manager. There is also communication with General Managers, Regional Directors, , FP&A, Accounts Payable, Treasury, Commercial Sales and Accounting staff.
Decisions Made:
Resolves problems and issues within the Wholesale Division. Makes decisions relating to how best to provide specialized reporting requested by management.
Safety Considerations:
Safety considerations relate to proper ergonomics in an office setting including appropriate workstation and computer terminal setup. Safe and appropriate use of electronic equipment is expected.
Equipment Used:
Equipment used in this position includes a calculator, networked personal computer, printers, and telephone.
Work Environment:
Most work is performed in an office environment with controlled temperature and lighting.
Physical Requirements Analysis:
This position requires frequent sitting, standing and walking; visual acuity; frequent use of fingers to write, type and handle paperwork; frequent communication involving listening and speaking.
Weight or Force Moved:
There is occasional need to lift or move objects weighing more than 5 pounds. Assistance is available for lifting heavier objects.
