Job Summary

The Office of Investments is seeking an Analyst to join our collaborative operations team, working alongside pothers who value intellectual curiosity and teamwork. We welcome early career professionals, 0-2 years of experience, with a strong work ethic, analytical mindset, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Team orientation, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity are highly valued.

The Investment Operations Analyst supports the Investment Office's operational data management and reporting needs. Reporting to a manager and working closely with senior analysts, the Analyst assists with internal controls, data collection, reconciliation, reporting, and documentation. The role requires conceptual knowledge of practices and procedures within the discipline, typically gained through a college degree or equivalent experience, and builds proficiency by performing structured work assignments under supervision.

For Analysts interested in further education, the University provides financial support for pursuing an MBA at the Booth School of Business and the CFA Charterholder designation. This position offers the option to work remotely on Fridays, except when required on-site for manager meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Supports established internal controls and procedures to collect, reconcile, and report cash flow, valuation, and performance-related data; follows documented processes and checklists.
  • Performs routine investment support functions, such as data requests, standard reconciliations, document intake, and status tracking, while building familiarity with systems, stakeholders, and workflows.
  • Assists with centralizing and maintaining key investment data, including liquidity terms, holdings, performance details, and manager communications, by entering, updating, and validating information in approved repositories.
  • Supports process documentation by maintaining organized records (notes, supporting files, and audit trails) and updating documentation as directed.
  • Uses existing procedures to investigate routine data questions; escalates discrepancies, breaks, or non-standard items to more senior team members for resolution.
  • Prepares routine exhibits, extracts, and data sets for internal stakeholders using standard templates; verifies completeness and formatting prior to distribution.
  • Assists with daily/weekly data verification activities, such as cash position checks, tracking inflows/outflows, and basic exposure checks, according to established procedures and under supervision.
  • Supports performance reporting processes by gathering inputs, performing basic validations, and helping maintain historical records; does not independently own final calculations without review.
  • Assists in collecting and reporting data for industry surveys and peer benchmarking by following standard instructions and maintaining organized historical files.
  • Participates in process improvements by identifying recurring issues, suggesting clarifications to documentation, and helping test small enhancements under direction, such as template improvements, quality checks, and workflow steps, etc.
  • Learns and applies office tools, for example Excel, reporting platforms, and documentation systems, through formal training and on-the-job coaching. May assist with basic testing/QA steps using provided test scripts.
  • Supports many facets of the investment process, including the selection and monitoring of external investment specialists across asset classes.
  • Sources and performs due diligence of potential new investments. Performs industry analysis to determine investment attractiveness of various investment strategies.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
