Job Description

The Interventional Radiology Technologist 2 performs advanced diagnostic and interventional radiologic procedures, supporting radiologists during complex, high‑acuity, and emergent cases. This role functions with a high degree of technical independence, applying clinical judgment, sterile technique, and radiation safety principles to produce diagnostic‑quality images and support image‑guided interventions across diverse patient populations. Performs radiographic procedures according to protocols established for various group of patients. These exams will be in a sterile environment and will need venous and arterial access. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required. Assesses the age-specific needs of the patients. Performs job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of TGH.

  • Performs routine and complex angiographic procedures using sterile techniques as prescribed by Radiologist including but not limited to aortogram runoffs, arches, carotids, extremities, and cerebral. Positions and transfers patients.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients as they are performed. Responsible for correlating clinical history with prescribed procedure. Responsible for recognizing the significance of all structures and pathology image. Evaluates completed radiographs in order to ensure that they are of acceptable quality and properly marked. Evaluates radiographs to ensure that prescribed procedures provide the Radiologist with sufficient data to diagnosis the patient.
  • Documents exam data entry in Interventional Radiology logbook and properly charges the procedure and supplies used. A sound understanding of anatomy and interventional techniques in order to select the correct technical factors in producing quality images.
  • Maintains appropriate records, logs and documentation, as required. Documents exam data entry in Radiology Information System (RIS) per prescribed professionals. Perform routine and complex interventional and angiographic procedures, including cerebral, carotid, aortic, and peripheral studies, in accordance with established protocols
  • Apply independent technical judgment to imaging technique selection in high‑acuity and trauma cases.
  • Prepare and position patients, including assessment of clinical history and age‑specific needs.
  • Maintain sterile technique and radiation safety practices during invasive procedures.
  • Assist radiologists during interventional procedures requiring venous access and real‑time imaging support.
  • Evaluate image quality and completeness to ensure diagnostic adequacy.
  • Accurately document procedures, supplies, and charges in the Radiology Information System and related logs.
  • Support departmental workflow, precepting, and clinical instruction as assigned.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, competency validation, and continuing education.

Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology

Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)

Interventional Radiology Technologist (IRT) registry eligible

Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a hospital diagnostic imaging department, with required experience performing interventional and angiographic procedures in an acute care or trauma setting.

  • Advanced knowledge of interventional radiology and angiographic procedures, including cerebral and peripheral studies.
  • In‑depth understanding of vascular and cross‑sectional anatomy relevant to image‑guided interventions.
  • Proficiency in radiation physics, dose optimization, and ALARA principles.
  • Expertise in sterile technique for invasive and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Ability to independently adjust imaging parameters to optimize diagnostic image quality.
  • Clinical judgment to manage complex, emergent, and trauma‑related imaging scenarios.
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring, contrast administration considerations, and venous access support.
  • Familiarity with radiology documentation, charge capture, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to function as a technical resource and preceptor within the interventional radiology team.
  • Capacity to maintain performance standards in a fast‑paced, high‑stress Level 1 trauma environment.
