Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 5. The work will be done in a hybrid model, requiring 23 days per week onsite at one of the clients digital hub locations (Chicago, Dallas, Peoria, or Broomfield). This is a long-term 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $108/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).Job Summary Cullerton Group is seeking a senior-level Lead Software Engineer to drive the architecture and development of advanced search capabilities within a large-scale eCommerce platform. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership to design scalable, high-performance search solutions that improve product discovery and user experience. The engineer will define the technical vision for search systems while collaborating with product managers, data scientists, and global engineering teams. This position focuses on building low-latency APIs, optimizing search performance, and implementing modern search technologies such as NLP, vector search, and personalization.Key Responsibilities Define the technical vision and architecture for scalable, high-performance search platforms Design and implement advanced search capabilities such as NLP, vector search, and personalization Develop low-latency APIs and cloud-based search services using modern cloud technologies Analyze search performance metrics and optimize relevance using analytics and A/B testing frameworks Mentor engineers, conduct technical reviews, and establish engineering best practicesRequired Qualifications Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or a related technical field 10+ years of software development experience with at least 7+ years focused on search engineering 3+ years of experience leading technical teams or serving in a technical leadership role Strong experience with modern search technologies, frameworks, and data-driven optimization Experience building low-latency APIs in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) Experience with version control systems such as GitHub and working within Agile development teamsPreferred Qualifications Experience with NLP, vector search, or advanced search relevance optimization Experience with A/B testing frameworks and search analytics metrics (CTR, query distribution, zero-search analysis) Background supporting large-scale eCommerce platforms or high-volume search systems Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and data scienceWhy This Role?
