Job Description
Internship Summary The IT Support Intern is an entry-level, learning-focused position designed for high school or early college students who are interested in pursuing a career in Information Technology. This role provides hands-on exposure to supporting users, maintaining computer systems, and learning how IT services operate in a professional environment.
Under the guidance of the IT team, the intern will assist with basic troubleshooting, documentation, computer setup, and user support tasks while developing foundational technical, problem-solving, and customer service skills. This position emphasizes curiosity, willingness to learn, and growth rather than prior professional experience.
What You’ll Do (Essential Functions)
- Assist with monitoring and supporting computer systems, printers, and basic network connectivity.
- Help install, configure, and set up computers, peripherals, and software for users.
- Provide first-level support to users by answering questions, documenting issues, and escalating problems when appropriate.
- Learn how to document work, tickets, and procedures using IT systems and tools.
- Assist with basic user account tasks such as password resets and access requests under supervision.
- Work with users to encourage effective and secure use of technology and automation tools.
- Participate in learning opportunities, shadowing IT staff, and completing assigned projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the IT manager within the scope of training, knowledge, and ability.
- This is not an on-call position.
What We’re Looking For: Education and/or Experience
- Currently enrolled in high school or early college (preferred but not required).
- Interest in Information Technology, computer systems, or related fields.
- No formal degree or professional experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills (Windows/macOS use, file management, internet navigation).
- Familiarity with common hardware such as desktops, laptops, monitors, keyboards, and printers.
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn how computers and systems work behind the scenes.
- Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when unsure.
- Basic problem-solving skills and willingness to troubleshoot issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, customer-service-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work independently with guidance and as part of a team.
Work Environment
- Office and healthcare environment
- Sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 20–30 lbs)
- Frequent use of hands for typing and handling equipment
- Clear vision, hearing, and communication required
- Limited potential exposure to dust, noise, or other typical workplace conditions
