Job Description
Applicant must have previous experience as a Justice Court Clerk and have experience using Tyler Technologies Enterprise Justice software.
Position is temporarily funded as full-time but may become part-time starting October 1, 2026.
This position administers all functions of the Justice of the Peace Court and performs independently, within department's policy and procedures, referring administrative problems to the Judge. The Justice Court Clerk performs all administrative and clerical duties essential to the proper operation of the business of the court, such as entering/filing all criminal and civil cases, docket management and tracking of trial dates, keeping case records, entering judgments and events, issuing all process documents, including hearing notices, warrants, judgments, citations and writs and handles all appeals to be forwarded to the County Court at Law. he Justice Court Clerk is statutorily required to handle all Youth Diversion process exclusive of the Justice of the Peace. The Clerk assists in developing and recommending strategic plans and new program initiatives as well as development and maintenance of technology to assist in the efficient operation of the office and to aid the public through website, email and document/information exchange. The Clerk is the point of contact for the general public seeking to file civil cases and for defendants with pending criminal cases and handles collection efforts of fines and fees. A Justice Court Clerk receives complex training and education in order to understand and comply with laws, regulations and policies on a wide variety of subject matters.
