Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to lead and grow a high-performing environmental testing laboratory. This role is responsible for technical oversight, team leadership, regulatory compliance, and ensuring the highest standards of analytical quality and safety.This is an excellent opportunity for a chemistry professional who thrives in both hands-on laboratory environments and leadership roles.Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall technical and operational leadership for the environmental chemistry laboratory
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory standards (including QA/QC, certifications, and audits)
- Oversee method development, validation, and performance of analytical testing
- Manage and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including calibration, troubleshooting, and performance verification
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and control programs
- Train, mentor, and develop chemists, analysts, and technicians
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices
- Review, approve, and validate analytical data and final reports
- Collaborate with leadership to drive efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- Bachelors degree in Chemistry (or closely related field) required(Masters or PhD strongly preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in an environmental laboratory setting
- Strong background in analytical chemistry and environmental testing
- Proven experience with laboratory instrumentation (e.g., GC, GC/MS, ICP, ICP-MS, HPLC, UV-Vis, etc.)
- Experience with instrument calibration, validation, and maintenance
- Knowledge of QA/QC programs, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards
- Prior experience leading, training, or mentoring laboratory staff
- A hands-on leader who can balance technical excellence with people development
- Someone who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and maintaining high scientific standards
