Laboratory Technician II/III - Cell Engineering - - Decatur, IL

Position Summary
Are you a team player who thrives on keeping operations running smoothly? Are you detailed oriented and like to keep things organized? The Cell Engineering group is looking to hire a great laboratory technician (II/III) to perform essential daily lab tasks. In this role, you'll support and enable scientists to work efficiently and will become an important part of a great team. Full training and plenty of learning opportunities in microbiology, molecular biology and enzyme assays will be provided.
Job responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of liquid and solid media, and other essential lab reagents
- Wash, sterilize, and ready glassware to keep experiments running smoothly
- Load, sterilize, and stock pipette tip boxes
- Promptly autoclave and safely dispose of solid and liquid lab waste
- Keep inventories up to date using internal tracking systems
- Manage chemical ordering, storage, and disposal with care and accuracy
- Monitor supply levels and place timely orders to maintain steady workflows
- Unbox, organize, and stock incoming supplies
- Clean and maintain fridges, freezers, and incubators for optimal performance
- Submit maintenance requests to ensure the lab keeps running smoothly
- Maintain shared lab spaces (cleaning, organizing, and restocking as needed)
- Support overall lab organization, helping keep everything running efficiently
- Jump in to assist with other lab activities as needed
Job requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, with 3+ years of laboratory experience, or an associate's degree with 1+ year of laboratory experience is required
- Prior experience preparing media and solutions is preferred
- Strong basic math skills and the ability to troubleshoot problems are required
- Must be comfortable using personal computers (e.g. Microsoft Office, electronic notebooks)
- Willingness to learn and use web-based tools (e.g. LIMS) for media preparation, tracking, and labeling, and consumables stocks and location
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions, and work independently with minimal supervision (after training)
- Pride in completing tasks accurately, efficiently, and on time
- Proactivity and high level of organization with a strong attention to detail
- Customer service-oriented mindset in daily responsibilities
- Clear communicator
- Able to stand for extended periods
- Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Team player willing to acquired new skills
- Contribute to a knowledge-sharing, positive, safe and inclusive work environment
