Job Description

Job Summary

The Labor Relations Specialist supports the execution of HR labor relations strategies, policies, and compliance initiatives across the organization. This role works closely with HR leadership, operations, and union representatives to ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), employment laws, and company policies.

The Specialist will assist in handling employee relations matters, supporting investigations, maintaining documentation, and helping manage union interactions to promote a positive and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the administration and compliance of labor relations policies, CBAs, and employment regulations across assigned locations.
  • Assist in managing employee relations issues, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Draft and review labor-related documentation such as disciplinary notices, written warnings, and employee communications.
  • Partner with HR and operations teams to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for frontline labor-related inquiries from employees and supervisors.
  • Support union-related activities, including grievance tracking, meeting coordination, and documentation preparation.
  • Assist in preparing for and participating in labor meetings, including safety committees and employee discussions.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor relations cases, investigations, and outcomes.
  • Monitor trends in employee relations and provide recommendations to improve workplace practices.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing absenteeism, turnover, and workplace conflicts.
  • Travel to other stations as needed to support labor relations activities and operational needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 2–4 years of experience in employee relations, HR, or labor relations
  • Exposure to union environments or CBAs preferred (not required)
  • Experience supporting workplace investigations or disciplinary processes is a plus

Skill and Attributes

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
  • Solid problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Basic understanding of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a SIDA badge (if applicable to airport operations)
  • Must pass background check and drug screening

Travel

This position requires 15% flexibility to travel in the U.S.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role and required being able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time. The person in this position is required to move/traverse inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. The person in this position regularly communicates with others in person, by phone, or by correspondence.
