Position Overview
The Labor Relations Manager in the nuclear sector plays a pivotal role in fostering cooperative and productive relationships between company management and unionized employees. Operating within one of the worlds most highly regulated and safety-sensitive industries, this individual will serve as a liaison between company leadership and labor organizations, ensuring both compliance with regulatory mandates and the promotion of a positive workplace culture. The successful candidate will be tasked with supporting ongoing negotiations, managing disputes and grievances, developing labor strategies, and maintaining effective communication. This role demands a deep understanding of both labor law and the unique challenges of the nuclear industry, including its technical, ethical, and safety considerations.Key Responsibilities
- Union Negotiations and Collective Bargaining:
- Act as the principal company representative in collective bargaining sessions with unions representing plant workers, technicians, engineers, and other staff.
- Develop negotiation strategies that align company goals with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Analyze, draft, and recommend contract proposals, modifications, and settlement agreements.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field. A masters degree or professional certification (e.g., SHRM, SPHR) is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in labor relations, with at least 3 years in a construction, energy, or similarly regulated industrial environment. Nuclear sector experience is highly desirable.
- Expertise in collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance resolution.
- Thorough understanding of labor laws and regulations relevant to nuclear energy, including OSHA, NRC, and NLRB standards.
- Demonstrated ability to foster constructive working relationships with union leaders and workforce representatives.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong analytical skills, with the capacity to synthesize complex regulatory, operational, and human factors.
