The Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Administrative / Office support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through a grant administered program through National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. You'll be working side-by-side with EPA staff that are doing important work every day. Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium when working over 60 hours in 2 week pay period, Paid Vacation, Paid Sick Time, Paid Federal Holidays Plus One Individual Holiday, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available. This position requires a background security check including 5 year questionnaire, fingerprinting and identification verification prior to start. Please note that due to EPA Policy, this opportunity only applies to United States Citizens. Local applicants only. Must live within local commuting distance and able to work onsite as scheduled at the EPA Lab in Houston, TX.
Qualifications: Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Chemistry/Lab Work OR AA Degree in Chemistry OR Previously completed training in Chemistry and Lab Safety Lab safety knowledge Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, Copying Machine Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) Duties: Laboratory Technician at the R6 EPA Houston Lab (LSASD). Provides support in the preparation of samples, data entry/archival of lab data, sample receipt/login, and general analytical support of the division's overall science mission. Assists analytical lab areas by performing sample preparation, equipment setup and tear down, glassware cleaning, and wet chemistry methods. 40% Assists the laboratory with analytical data entry, data reduction and review. 30% Backup in sample login. Provides login support, which includes unpacking sample containers, data entry, disposal and package receipt. 10% Assists Health and Safety team with hazardous waste disposal. 10% Assists the laboratory in archival of physical and electronic records. 10% Other: Potential exposure to chemicals in the lab (mostly organic solvents) Potential exposure to chemicals in the lab (mostly organic solvents) Required Safety Gear: Lab coat, safety goggles, disposable gloves Safety Gear Use: Sample log in and sample preparation work Physical requirements: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
