Job Description

We are seeking a professional, detail‑oriented Landscape Crew Lead to oversee a mowing and maintenance crew serving residential and commercial properties. This role requires strong leadership, horticultural knowledge, safety ownership, and the ability to support estimating and help grow the department through consistent quality and professional conduct.Leadership and Professional Standards:
  • Lead a mowing and maintenance crew with a focus on professionalism, punctuality, and customer‑ready appearance.
  • Set the standard for quality by demonstrating precise mowing patterns, clean edging, and meticulous property cleanup.
  • Communicate clearly with crew members and management, ensuring expectations are understood and followed.
  • Maintain a respectful, team‑focused work environment and address performance issues promptly and professionally.
  • Represent the company on job sites with courtesy, accountability, and attention to detail.
Department Growth and Operational Support:
  • Support the growth of the landscape division by maintaining high‑quality work that strengthens customer trust and retention.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services, improvements, or enhancements on customer properties.
  • Provide accurate site notes, photos, and feedback that help management plan routes, staffing, and future expansion.
  • Assist in training new team members to uphold company standards and build a stronger, more capable department.
  • Uphold a professional image that reflects positively on the company and contributes to long‑term client relationships.
Estimating and Job Scoping:
  • Assist management by providing accurate measurements, material counts, and labor estimates for small landscape projects.
  • Identify site conditions, access limitations, and potential challenges that may impact pricing or scheduling.
  • Communicate clearly about scope changes, additional work opportunities, or customer‑requested add‑ons.
  • Document before/after photos and site notes to support estimating accuracy and customer communication.
Plant, Turf, and Horticultural Knowledge:
  • Identify common landscape plants, shrubs, and trees and understand their care requirements.
  • Recognize early signs of disease, pests, nutrient deficiencies, or improper pruning.
  • Apply proper mowing heights, pruning standards, mulching practices, and seasonal care techniques.
  • Guide crew members on correct trimming, bed maintenance, and plant‑safe practices.
Pesticide Certification and Application:
  • Hold or be able to obtain a state‑recognized pesticide applicator certification (Registered Technician or Certified Applicator).
  • Follow all regulations for safe handling, mixing, and application of herbicides and insecticides.
  • Maintain accurate application logs and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Identify turf and ornamental pests and recommend appropriate treatment strategies.
Safety and Compliance Expectations:
  • Enforce all company safety policies and ensure PPE is worn consistently and correctly.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and verify all machinery is safe before leaving the shop.
  • Maintain safe operating distances around blades, discharge areas, traffic, and pedestrians.
  • Ensure proper fueling, loading/unloading, and equipment shutdown procedures are followed.
  • Document and report hazards, near misses, or equipment issues immediately.
Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance with strong mowing and equipment operation skills.
  • Proven ability to lead a crew with professionalism, attention to detail, and consistent follow‑through.
  • Working knowledge of plants, shrubs, trees, and turf care.
  • Experience assisting with estimating or willingness to learn required.
  • Pesticide certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to tow a trailer.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance are essential.
