Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Lead Carpenter to support residential construction and renovation projects in Montpelier, Vermont. This role is ideal for a skilled carpenter who can lead job-site activities while contributing hands-on expertise in framing, finish carpentry, and residential construction tasks.

The Lead Carpenter will coordinate daily site operations, guide carpentry crews, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with high-quality workmanship. This position is well suited for a construction professional who enjoys working in the field while maintaining responsibility for job-site organization and project progress.

Responsibilities

Perform hands-on carpentry work including framing, finish carpentry, trim installation, and general construction tasks
Lead and coordinate carpentry crews on residential construction and remodeling projects
Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications
Assist with scheduling and coordinating subcontractors and specialty trades
Manage job-site logistics including materials, tools, and equipment organization
Ensure projects meet quality standards and project specifications
Maintain job-site safety and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety procedures
Troubleshoot field issues and implement practical solutions to keep projects on schedule
Communicate project progress and job-site updates with project managers and leadership

Requirements

5+ years of experience in residential construction or carpentry
Strong background in framing, finish carpentry, and residential building methods
Experience leading crews or supervising carpentry teams on job sites
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and construction plans
Strong knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and safety practices
Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organized job sites
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience

Experience with high-end residential homes or custom remodeling projects
Background coordinating subcontractors or managing small construction crews
Familiarity with construction scheduling and project coordination
OSHA safety training or certifications
