Job Description Summary

Within the Gas Power Americas team, the Lead Project Engineering Managerwill be under the operational responsibility of the Americas Pole Leader forProject Engineering Management, located in Schenectady, New York. You willexecute the engineering portion of OTR contracts that contain Balance of Plant(BOP) scope. Own the project control activity globally and drive consistentfunctional specifications and common global processes for projectsimplementation. Activities that are conducted to better understand or ultimatelymeet the expectations of the customer Impacts approaches, projects andprograms in the functional area or affected business organization and ways ofworking. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Hassignificant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policiesthat are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring highlevels of operational judgment. Job will require some travel within the US, LatinAmerica, and Globally

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serves as the technical leader/manager to develop a scope of work and plan schedule and monitor engineering activities for customer projects. Provide technical leadership and interface with Proposal Management, Cost Estimating, Partners, Customers, GE Product Engineering, Sourcing, Engineering sub-contractors.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Own the engineering execution of BOP-scoped Projects from Contract signature until the end of GE contractual obligations.
  • Manage a cross functional Engineering team to master the risks and opportunities of the Contract.
  • Providing technical guidance and assistance to Project Management and GE’s internal engineering teams.
  • Reviewing Customer specifications and communicating contract and project requirements to all design functions, utilizing internal documentation systems.
  • Evaluating financial/schedule impact of Customer requested scope changes.
  • Providing technical support to Engineering, Sourcing, Vendors, and Installation teams to ensure equipment meets all Customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Enforce quality procedures and participate in their improvement.
  • Assure the experience feedback by capturing issues (Lessons Learned).
  • Work in a matrix organization with numerous interfaces: In house with mainly the Engineering departments of Belfort, Baden, Noida, Queretaro, Schenectady, and Greenville. In house with fellow PEM’s and Project Coordinators. In house with project managers, quality, sourcing, logistics and scheduling. Externally with Customers, partners, EPCs, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as Lead Project Engineering Manager, when assigned, to lead and facilitate a total project solution across all product lines: Global technical project focal point… partner with project manager for customer/EPC meetings, etc. Drive consistent project requirement flow down across product lines (GT/ST/Gen/BOP) (Contractual/compliance). Drive–functional resolution to technical project issues from a system level across product lines. Respect of the contractual obligations while protecting the customer satisfaction. Management of technical risks of the project. Drive project profitability according to the assigned budgets.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering or any other related STEM program from an accredited university or college.
  • A min of 6 years of experience or more of related industry experience with increasing responsibilities.

  • Expertise in one of the disciplines (Mechanical/ Electrical / Process).

For candidates applying to a Canadian-based position, the pay range for this position is between $131,700 and $181,700 CAD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. 

Bonus eligibility: 10%.

The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
