The Opportunity
We are seeking a Lead Protection and Control Technician who thrives in complex environments, leads with confidence, and brings hands-on expertise to mission‑critical projects. In this role, you'll take ownership of commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting advanced protective relaying schemes across generation, transmission, and distribution substations.
What You'll Do
- Lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
- Perform advanced end‑to‑end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
- Execute functional and scheme testing: reclosing, breaker failure, advanced logic, and communication‑assisted protection schemes.
- Troubleshoot and optimize protocols including DNP3, Modbus, 8979, using tools such as Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
- Develop and refine standardized commissioning and testing procedures.
- Mentor junior technicians and oversee field execution for safety and quality.
- Partner with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver world‑class reliability.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years field experience in relay testing, calibration, and substation commissioning without direct supervision.
- Expertise in three‑phase power systems, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
- Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
- Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
- Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
