Job Description

As a Lead R&D Engineer/Scientist at Honeywell, you will be responsible for providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to lead critical projects. In this position you would develop innovative next generation's products and systems as part of a highly engaged and integrated engineering team. You will be a technical focal point across Honeywell Aerospace engineering teams creating solutions and systems that meet the evolving needs of our customers. As a technical expert, you will leverage advanced tools and techniques to deliver high impact business results while acting as a senior technical leader and coaching other engineers. By collaborating with customers and broader engineering teams, you will influence product and methodology developments. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing best practices to enhance the efficiency of R&D activities.

You will report directly to our Sr R&D Manager in the Advanced Technology Propulsion Technology Development team and you'll work out of our Phoenix, Arizona location on a Hybrid work schedule.

In this role, you will impact the development of cutting-edge technologies, shape the future of the company, and contribute to Honeywell's commitment to addressing global challenges through innovative Propulsion Engine Technology and solutions in support of the Honeywell Engines Technology Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead collaborative concept generation, design definition, and system integration efforts for propulsion technology concepts to maturation levels of TRA6
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies to explore new technology opportunities in cold and hot section components (fan, compressor, combustor and turbine) within a propulsion system.
  • Provide engineering guidance for bench-level, sub-system, rig, and engine level testing to support TRA6 maturation of propulsion system technologies.
  • Lead collaborative module design reviews for product Chief approval and drawing release.
  • Develop novel design and analytical methods to efficiently evaluate new material systems and their impact on standard work processes.
  • Identify methodologies to incorporate advanced manufacturing methods into new technology concepts.
  • Identify critical gaps in intellectual property to obtain critical design space in propulsion systems development.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to leverage collective expertise and resources which R&D projects adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Honeywell's quality and safety protocols
  • Contribute to the development of strategies for successfully bringing R&D innovations to market
  • Support program management for the transition of technology into Honeywell's products, such as defining project scope, project execution, cost account management, schedule and risk management.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary matrix team with internal departments, external suppliers, Chief Engineers and resident experts to accomplish project objectives.
  • Serve as project owner and the single point of accountability for a project and lead advance technology proposals to support technical marketing.
  • Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to organizational development.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics
  • 6+ years of gas turbine experience or equivalent performing research and development projects within a technology or manufacturing environment
  • Strong background in areas such as materials science, electronics, sensors, controls, or related fields
  • Experience working in teams of engineers, scientists, or technicians in a collaborative work environment
  • Proven track record of technical leadership and project management
  • Strong propensity for collaborative work environments

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or another related field
  • Ability to work independently, research, and prove new techniques and methodologies that lead to optimal products and processes
  • Proven capability to bring together both theory/analysis and practice to deliver high impact business results
  • Ability to identify problems and significantly improve or change existing methods and techniques, strong problem solving and risk mitigation skill
  • Ability to influence internal and external parties to deliver advanced tools, methodologies and product designs.
  • Competence to convey subtle or complex messages clearly, as appropriate for the topic and audience
  • Experience with convention manufacturing methods and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technology commercialization is a plus.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management tools such as Teamcenter.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T drawing standards.
  • Attention to detail
