JOB TITLE: Lead Safety Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Delivery Safety- Cedar Point Safety & Training

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE: $99,500 - $132,600 - $165,800

Scheduled Work Hours: Generally, Monday- Friday, 7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. (Other hours required for off-shift meetings, emergencies, or storm coverage).

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

With a positive attitude and balancing customer service with regulatory obligations, create safe work environments by minimizing the risk of accidents, sickness and hazards in the workplace and raise awareness of workplace hazards through coaching and safety audits. Increases safety awareness of Power Delivery employees by providing leadership and mentoring to field employees and leaders towards the development of a safety culture, ensuring compliance with company safety rules, OSHA regulations, and other regulatory compliance. Participates in audits and observations. Responds to serious personal injury incidents involving employees, contractors or public. Actively participates on safety teams, related councils, and committees, developing and providing safety bulletins and other safety related communication and coordinating or providing OSHA compliance training. This position will serve as Safety Coordinator for Evergy Power Delivery Departments including Line, Substation, Design, Engineering, Meter, DSO, Fleet, Stores and all other related areas.

Education and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or GED. A Bachelor's Degree in Science & Industrial Safety is preferred. Electrical utility craft experience preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

This position prefers a minimum 5 years of safety-related experience or 5 years of experience in delivery operations and/or power generation. Supervisory experience is preferred, as is knowledge of Bargaining Unit Agreements. Other experience may be in Corporate, Supply, or Generation, Field or Support functions, knowledge of OSHA regulations including 29CFR 1910 and 1926, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey information accurately and effectively, excellent comprehension skills - the ability to read, understand and accurately interpret OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations and standards, and the ability to create and deliver presentations to internal customers and community groups.

Able to analyze data by identifying the principles, reasons, and facts present and to break down the information into useful parts. Able to see detailed pieces and parts of safety issues and to extrapolate and recognize bigger patterns and awareness of legislations that will affect safety practices and reporting. Broad knowledge of field operations, construction, and maintenance.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in office and field settings. Frequent visits to the field in all types of weather conditions are required. Travel to other locations within the company and some overnight travel is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload, project deadlines, and outage support. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance, a positive attitude, and strong working relationships.
