Education Requirement:

• Completion of formal, accredited training program in an approved School of Radiology Technology, plus registration through the American Registry for Radiology Technologists or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality patient care with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
• Analytical skills and the ability to calculate and prepare radiographic contrast or radio-pharmaceutical isotopes (where applicable) according to standard procedure required by the test given, with the ability to operate all current equipment.
• Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills to plan and direct Section operations and to effectively provide input on future goals and objectives in the department.
• The ability to support and interpret policies appropriately.
• Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interface effectively with patients, physicians, patient's family and other hospital employees.

Experience:

• One to two years of increasing responsibility and experience in a hospital Radiology Department.

Responsibilities:

• Schedules work time, holidays, sick time and vacation coverage of employees within unit which provides diagnostic radiographs to physicians for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
• Provides assistance with problems, and communicates new or changed policies and procedures to unit personnel.
• Counsels, guides, and evaluates the performance of employees regularly assigned to the unit.
• May provide input on hiring or disciplinary action.
• Responsible for the efficient patient flow by scheduling patient examinations, and coordinating work assignment of employees while giving consideration to the current volume of examination orders, type of radiography required, and the availability of equipment and facilities.
• Provides for the clinical experience of radiologic Technology students, instructing and guiding students through radiological procedures in the area of responsibility. May review performance of student with instructor.
• Regularly checks radiographs performed by technologists in the unit for quality control purposes.
• Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks such as conducting inventory and ordering supplies; compiling statistics; checking equipment for proper operating condition, and arranging for repair when needed; providing input for budgetary needs.
• Assumes charge-duty responsibility during weekends in the absence of regularly scheduled supervisory personnel on a routine basis.
• Understands and practices ALARA principles of radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
• Regularly performs all functions of a Radiologic Technologist.
