Job Description
A large, international law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Prosecution Assistant to join its Washington, DC office and provide high-level support to attorneys within its Intellectual Property practice.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on patent prosecution experience, strong knowledge of IP processes and deadlines, and the ability to provide polished administrative and practice support in a sophisticated law firm environment.
What You’ll Do
- Support attorneys with U.S. and international patent prosecution matters
- Prepare, revise, proofread, and coordinate patent-related filings, correspondence, and supporting documentation
- Assist with filings and communications with the USPTO
- Monitor docketing deadlines and help ensure timely completion of patent prosecution requirements
- Maintain electronic matter files, patent records, and portfolio information
- Coordinate with clients, foreign associates, vendors, docketing teams, paralegals, and other firm personnel
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and other materials related to patent portfolios
- Manage attorney calendars, meetings, time entry, expenses, and other administrative responsibilities
- Provide proactive day-to-day support while managing multiple priorities and time-sensitive matters
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of patent prosecution experience required
- Experience supporting attorneys in a law firm or professional services environment
- Knowledge of USPTO procedures, patent prosecution processes, and related deadlines
- Experience with IP management and/or docketing systems and other legal technology
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Strong proofreading skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Collaborative, proactive approach with sound professional judgment
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
