Job Summary:
The Legal Associate will join the Retail Insurance Legal team to support product contract development, regulatory submissions, and product implementation for annuity and insurance products. This role ensures all contracts and filings comply with applicable laws and regulatory standards while coordinating closely with business, actuarial, compliance, and operations partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft contract provisions for new retail annuity products by gathering and coordinating requirements from internal stakeholders.
- Develop project timelines and manage submission processes for product filings and state approvals.
- Analyze state insurance laws and Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission (IIPRC) standards for product development initiatives.
- Correspond and negotiate with state regulators, preparing and submitting responses to objections.
- Oversee product submissions in SERFF, streamlining the process to reduce approval time.
- Review, file, and obtain approval for consumer advertising and branding initiatives.
- Collaborate with marketing to ensure advertising aligns with product requirements and compliance standards.
- Maintain comprehensive records of regulated forms and ensure accurate usage across business units.
- Provide legal and regulatory support to internal operations and third-party administrators for in-force policy management.
- Maintain professional contact with state insurance departments and the IIPRC to stay current on compliance and product approval procedures.
Required Experience:
- 7+ years in the annuity and/or life insurance industry, with at least 3 years in a legal, compliance, or product development function.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, sales practices, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Professional.
- Working knowledge of SERFF and life/annuity product regulations.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Experience with annuity, 401(k) annuity, pension risk transfer, or funding agreement products.
- Legal or compliance experience with product development or state filings.
