Job Description

What you'll do:

  • Performs legal research on specific issues for Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Office of Collective Bargaining Deputy Director, Assistant Deputy Director & Lead Labor Relations, Human Resources Policy Administrators & Policy Analysts (e.g. researches unfair labor practices, civil service laws and rules, State Employment Relations Board decisions, court opinions and employment law issues)
  • Analyzes & responds to unfair labor practice charges on behalf of State agencies, including contacting agency representatives to obtain information/documentation to support the State's position on the charge to complete the response
  • Reads, reviews & summarizes arbitration awards, based on legal research, prepares memoranda & performs various special projects as assigned.
  • Performs a variety of duties relating to researching topics for arbitrations & mediations, writing briefs & closing arguments, assists advocates in preparing material & documents for mediation & arbitration.
  • Contacts state agencies & other public/government entities to answer inquiries
  • Assist supervisors in responding to agency inquiries
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled & attending an accredited law school

Knowledge:

  • Ohio Revised Code Chapters 4117 & Ohio Administrative Code 123, 124*
  • Public/human relations
  • Agency policies & procedures*
  • Ohio labor, civil service law
  • Arbitration/mediation & labor relations practices*

Skills:

  • Operation of personal computer & related software using Microsoft Office

Abilities:

  • Deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context
  • Gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things
  • Developed after employment
