Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Legal Support Clerk performs a variety of journey-level, specialized clerical support duties within the justice system. Responsibilities include preparing and processing specialized documents, providing information to the public and partner agencies, responding to inquiries, and ensuring quality and accuracy in all work. This role requires effective communication, sound decision-making based on established criteria, strong typing and data entry skills, and a high level of self-motivation.

We Require

  • Two years of experience performing specialized clerical duties such as drafting memos and correspondence, gathering data for reports, and providing customer service duties

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education may substitute for the minimum experience on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire

  • The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Drug testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement

Job Contributions

  • Locate, order, pull, create, and organize case files

  • Enter and retrieve case information from various databases, including the Motor Vehicle Department, Justice Court database, and Superior Court database, among others

  • Perform statistical data collection and tracking

  • Prepare various correspondence

  • Research persons' information in state and national criminal history databases

  • Maintain a current TOC with the Department of Public Safety

  • Enter data in the case management system using information provided by law enforcement

  • Assist in entering case disposition entries

  • Assist in scanning and uploading case files and documents, such as certified criminal history records

  • Collaborate frequently, if not daily, with supervisors, co-workers, and peers in other bureaus/divisions via electronic mail, phone calls, in-person, and virtual meetings

Working Conditions

  • Mostly office setting in a high-volume, fast-paced legal office environment

  • Requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities

  • May require travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business

  • Ability to lift boxes and/or pull a mailcart weighing 25 - 40 pounds

  • Hybrid and alternative work schedules are available upon successful completion of the 6-12-month probationary period

  • Operate office equipment that requires manual dexterity of hands and body
