JOB OPPORTUNITY with the Glenview Park District:
Lifeguard (Part-Time, Seasonal)
"Recreate" a better life with a career in the field of Parks & Recreation!
The district recruits, hires and trains roughly 150 lifeguards for the summer season. Interviews will be offered between February 1-May 15.
JOB SUMMARY
Glenview Park District is looking to hire lifeguard staff to join our aquatics team! This role you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining a safe aquatic environment through constant surveillance, rule enforcement, and proactive prevention techniques
- Responding to minor and medical emergencies and providing care until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager, Aquatic Supervisor, or Aquatic Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 15 years old by the first day of work. Candidates under the age of 16 years old must provide a worker's permit.
- No Experience Needed: Glenview Park District provides all training you need - you'll be fully trained and certified before your first day of work
- Certification Course: Candidates need to complete the StarGuard Elite lifeguard certification course offered by Glenview Park District. This course is offered as online blended learning that includes in-person training that takes place over three days. By the end of the course, candidates will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of all practical skills, pass a written exam and complete swim assessment (Swim 200 yards (8 lengths of the pool)) using front crawl and/or breast stroke, treading and retrieve brick from bottom of pool)
SCHEDULING & PAY
- The summer season ranges from May through September (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend). Mandatory trainings will begin in mid-late May.
- At Roosevelt and Flick Outdoor Pools, the schedule is flexible, accommodating and varies from week to week. Staff must be available to work at least 15 hours per week including nights and weekends, but can work as much as 40 hours per week.
- Time off requests will be allowed at the beginning of summer for up to 10 days off. Staff will also have the ability to submit time off requests throughout the season.
Pay starts at $17.00/hour and is dependent on qualifications.
