Job Description
Position: Litigation Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary (CONTRACT) Location: Downtown Parking: Free Pay: $36$45/hour(DOE)100% In-Office Contract Duration: 3 months (could be extended) Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to a team of attorneys handling a variety of litigation matters.
- Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, docketing, and scheduling to ensure all deadlines and appointments are met.
- Prepare, edit, proofread, and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other litigation-related materials.
- File legal documents electronically in state and federal courts and ensure compliance with applicable filing requirements.
- Coordinate hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, client meetings, and other case-related events, including travel arrangements when needed.
- Assist with trial preparation by organizing exhibits, preparing trial notebooks, coordinating witnesses, and managing case materials.
- Enter attorney time, assist with billing support, and process expense reimbursements and other administrative requests.
- Open new matters, maintain electronic and physical case files, and ensure all documentation is organized and current.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, vendors, and internal team members via phone and email.
- Conduct basic legal and case-related research, including reviewing court rules, filing requirements, and publicly available case information.
- Provide additional administrative support to the legal team as needed.
- Minimum of 5 years of legal secretary experience supporting litigation attorneys in a law firm environment.
- Experience supporting general civil and/or commercial litigation required.
- Proven ability to support multiple attorneys while effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of Texas state and federal court filing procedures, including electronic filing.
- Experience with document management systems and legal practice management software preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word, with exceptional legal document formatting skills.
- Familiarity with PACER, Texas e-filing systems, and applicable court rules is preferred.
- Notary Public commission is a plus but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive information.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
- Professional, client-service-oriented demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills.
