Litigation Legal Secretary (Medical Malpractice)
Fort Lauderdale, FL
A well-established, full-service commercial law firm with multiple offices across Florida is seeking an experienced Medical Malpractice Legal Secretary to support its litigation team in the Fort Lauderdale office. This position supports attorneys handling complex medical malpractice matters from presuit through trial and appeals.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and organize electronic and physical case files from intake through case closure
- Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, and correspondence
- Assist with drafting and propounding discovery (interrogatories, requests for production, etc.)
- Manage scheduling and calendaring of hearings, depositions, mediations, and conferences
- Monitor and track all deadlines, including court and filing deadlines
- Support trial preparation by organizing exhibits, assembling trial notebooks, and coordinating witnesses
- Handle e-filing in state and federal courts
- Perform administrative functions such as conflict checks, opening/closing matters, preparing engagement and cover letters, processing expense reports, entering attorney time, and coordinating travel
- Coordinate meetings, conference calls, and Zoom conferences
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of legal secretary or legal assistant experience (medical malpractice preferred)
- Ability to work onsite in the Fort Lauderdale office
- Proficiency with state and federal court procedures, including e-filing
- Strong proofreading, redlining, and document formatting skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Experience with document management systems (e.g., iManage)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Reliable, punctual, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
- Strong teamwork skills and willingness to support others
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed
