Litigation ParalegalPosition Overview An elite, AmLaw 100 national law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join its team in Washington, D.C. This role operates on a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) and provides comprehensive, high-level support to attorneys on medium to large-scale litigation matters. The ideal candidate will possess advanced case management, legal research, discovery, and trial preparation skills, with a proven ability to leverage modern legal technology to streamline complex litigation processes. This role involves collaborating with and overseeing administrative staff, legal secretaries, and document clerks on client-related assignmentsPrimary Responsibilities:Case Management & Court Filings
- Serve as the central communication hub for litigation teams to ensure seamless information sharing and project coordination.
- Manage and maintain accurate case calendars and deadlines in collaboration with docketing personnel.
- Oversee the creation, indexing, and organization of complex case files and document collections using modern document management platforms.
- Proofread legal memoranda for grammatical and structural accuracy; verify citations and evidence in strict compliance with The Bluebook and jurisdictional rules.
- Coordinate, format, and execute court filings, including electronic submissions (e-filing), ensuring total compliance with specific court requirements.
- Conduct sophisticated factual research and analysis utilizing online databases, public agencies, and court records; compile findings into detailed memoranda.
- Manage specialized document collections, including witness files, key issue files, and expert reliance materials.
- Draft initial versions of pleadings, discovery requests, responses, and legal memoranda.
- Assist with the collection, tracking, and handling of electronically stored information (ESI) alongside internal practice support teams and outside eDiscovery vendors.
- Conduct interviews with witnesses and custodians to gather relevant case information.
- Perform quality control assessments on work delivered by outside service providers and vendors.
- Execute complex database searches to retrieve relevant evidence and prepare exhibits for depositions.
- Draft privilege logs and perform initial document reviews for responsiveness, relevance, and privilege.
- Summarize deposition transcripts and track ongoing deposition schedules.
- Assist with all phases of dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation (e.g., managing exhibit/witness lists, deposition designations, and trial briefs).
- Coordinate logistics with court staff, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, and trial vendors.
- Operate courtroom technology and presentation tools seamlessly during active proceedings.
- Provide comprehensive on-site trial support, including managing physical and digital trial exhibits, coordinating witness schedules, and summarizing daily trial testimony.
- Supervise junior paralegals and document clerks during high-pressure trial prep and live court proceedings.
- Accurately track and record billable time and tasks daily in strict accordance with firm policies and client protocols.
- Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and adherence to professional schedules.
- Experience: 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience within a law firm environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree and completion of an accredited paralegal program preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and highly demonstrated skills.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for complex document drafting and spreadsheet management.
- Deep experience with legal research and document retention platforms (Westlaw, LexisNexis, etc.).
- Proven proficiency with eDiscovery document review software, specifically Relativity.
- Proficiency with trial presentation and support software (e.g., Trial Directoror OnCue).
- Communication & Organization: Exceptional written and oral communication skills (post-college level) with an elite attention to detail and strong time-management capabilities.
