Job Description

The Sober Living Manager is responsible for the daily operations, safety, structure, and overall recovery environment of a 12-step-based sober living residence. The Manager provides leadership and accountability while supporting residents in developing the skills, routines, and recovery connections necessary for successful independent living.

The Manager is expected to model professionalism, personal accountability, healthy boundaries, and the principles of recovery while maintaining a safe, respectful, substance-free living environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Management & Accountability

  • Maintain a structured, supportive, and recovery-oriented living environment.
  • collect monthly rent from clients
  • Conduct resident orientations and review house rules, expectations, and policies.
  • Monitor compliance with curfews, meetings, chores, employment/school requirements, and other house expectations.
  • Address behavioral concerns, rule violations, and conflicts promptly and professionally.
  • Document incidents, violations, interventions, and significant resident concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents.
  • Encourage residents to take responsibility for their recovery and daily responsibilities.
  • Assist residents with transition planning and preparation for independent living.

12-Step Recovery Support

  • Promote participation in 12-step meetings and recovery activities.
  • Encourage residents to obtain and maintain a sponsor when appropriate.
  • Support residents in developing a recovery network and connection to the recovery community.
  • Encourage participation in step work, service work, fellowship, and other recovery-supportive activities.
  • Reinforce principles such as honesty, accountability, responsibility, service, acceptance, and personal growth.
  • Facilitate or coordinate recovery-oriented house meetings and educational activities as assigned.
  • Maintain a recovery-focused atmosphere without acting as a therapist, sponsor, or clinician.

House Operations

  • Oversee daily functioning of the residence.
  • Ensure the home is clean, organized, and maintained according to house standards.
  • Develop and monitor chore schedules and household responsibilities.
  • Conduct routine house inspections.
  • Coordinate maintenance and communicate repair needs to management.
  • Monitor household supplies and submit requests for necessary purchases.
  • Maintain accurate records related to residents, house operations, and incidents.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, room assignments, and resident transitions as directed.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a substance-free and safe living environment.
  • Follow all organizational policies and applicable laws/regulations.
  • Implement established procedures regarding suspected substance use, prohibited items, emergencies, and rule violations.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and contact emergency services when necessary.
  • Follow established drug/alcohol testing procedures when testing is part of the residence's program.
  • Protect resident confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Report serious incidents or safety concerns to the Program Director/Owner promptly.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicate regularly with program leadership regarding resident progress and concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with treatment providers, case managers, families, employers, or other outside parties only when authorized and consistent with applicable confidentiality requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training.
  • Maintain professional relationships with community recovery resources.
  • Provide accurate shift-to-shift communication and documentation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional education in behavioral health, social services, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • 3 years sober minimum
  • Experience in recovery, sober living, behavioral health, residential services, or a related setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with the 12 Steps and recovery principles strongly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and enforce rules consistently.
  • Strong communication, organization, conflict-resolution, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be dependable, responsible, and able to work independently.
  • CPR/First Aid certification may be required.
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on job responsibilities.
