Job Description

St. Ambrose University is seeking an LMS Administrator serving as the primary administrator and strategic leader for the University's Learning Management System (LMS), D2L Brightspace, a critical component of the institution's educational technology ecosystem. This position focuses on user experience, course setup, and system configuration while ensuring reliable access to digital learning environments.

This role combines technical expertise with educational vision to strengthen student learning and support faculty and staff in the strategic use of instructional technology. The LMS Administrator manages all aspects of the LMS, researches and implements emerging educational technologies, collaborates with faculty and institutional partners, and provides comprehensive training and support for users. The position plays a key role in advancing institutional priorities, innovation, accessibility, and evidence-based teaching practices.

Key Responsibilities

System Configuration, Management, and Compliance

  • Serve as primary administrator for the Learning Management System and related educational applications
  • Configure and manage LMS settings including roles, permissions, grading schemes, course creation, user accounts, enrollment, and integrations
  • Implement system updates, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely support to faculty and students
  • Monitor LMS performance and ensure reliable access to digital learning environments
  • Manage course content migration and archiving in accordance with institutional IT policies
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility, security, and accreditation standards in collaboration with IT and academic leadership
  • Serve as primary liaison with the LMS vendor for updates, troubleshooting, and feature requests
  • Generate reports on usage, engagement, performance, and accessibility
  • Provide data and insights to support academic and administrative decision-making
  • Act as liaison between faculty and IT for LMS and academic technology issues

Educational Technology Research and Innovation

  • Research, evaluate, and implement LMS enhancements and emerging technologies
  • Analyze trends in digital learning, student engagement, and instructional tools
  • Pilot new tools in areas such as assessment, generative AI, collaboration, engagement, and data visualization
  • Promote digital fluency and a culture of innovation across the institution
  • Remain current with advances in instructional technology and learning sciences

Collaboration with Faculty and Stakeholders

  • Partner with faculty and the University's learning team to implement technology supporting teaching and program goals
  • Provide consultations on instructional design and technology integration
  • Collaborate across disciplines and instructional modalities
  • Work with users of varying technical backgrounds to design effective solutions
  • Coordinate with IT and academic leadership on LMS configuration and strategy

User Support, Training, and Knowledge Sharing

  • Provide high-quality support and troubleshooting for LMS users
  • Design and deliver workshops, training sessions, and documentation for faculty, staff, and students
  • Develop training materials and knowledge resources
  • Promote awareness and effective use of academic technologies
  • Document policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Support and mentor academic technologists and contribute to institutional technology strategies

Assessment and Strategic Initiatives

  • Support institutional assessment processes within the LMS, including reporting and rubric development
  • Collaborate with academic leadership on assessment initiatives and data-informed decisions
  • Assist with implementation of academic applications and tools
  • Partner with IT and academic departments to assess, implement, and scale new technologies
  • Lead cross-platform initiatives and LMS-related migration projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer technology, information sciences, educational technology, or a related field
  • Experience administering or supporting a Learning Management System
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite, web and media technologies, graphics tools, and LMS platforms (including Brightspace)
  • Familiarity with AI-powered educational tools and their implementation
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinking and ability to evaluate technologies that advance teaching and learning
  • Understanding of ethical considerations in educational AI implementation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience with assistive and accessibility technologies
  • Certification or specialized training in educational applications or instructional technology
  • Experience leading LMS migrations or major system implementations
  • Knowledge of LMS integration standards (LTI, SCORM, xAPI)
  • Experience with multimodal and emerging learning technologies
