Are you passionate about sports and ready to help local businesses connect with fans through innovative advertising solutions? WMYD-TV, Scripps Sports in Detroit, is seeking a dynamic Local Sales Manager, Sports to lead our sports sales initiatives and build powerful partnerships that drive results. This is your opportunity to combine your love of sports with your sales expertise while working with one of the most passionate sports markets in the country.
In this role, you'll collaborate with our local sales team to deliver compelling multi-platform advertising solutions that help businesses reach customers through Scripps Sports assets. From OTT video and social media strategies to digital display, e-mail targeting, broadcast television, and sports sponsorships, you'll help clients maximize their impact across all platforms.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Collaborate with senior director, sales (DOS) and other sales managers and departments to accomplish the objectives of the station with regard to Scripps Sports team sales and sponsorships.
- Help in negotiating ratings, rates and budgets for sports with local station leadership.
- Develop new business for station utilizing and maximizing all station platforms including but not limited to broadcast, digital, mobile, and sponsorships.
- Assist AE's on key client sales calls for sports sponsorships.
- Develop working knowledge of local sports landscapes and leagues.
- Collaborate with the Director of Sales and Sales Managers to train, develop and motivate the local sales team so that revenue goals are achieved for sports budgets.
- Maintain positive working relationships with outside vendors.
- Interface with traffic systems and personnel to ensure efficient management of airtime inventory.
- Know the strengths and weaknesses of the competing stations, other advertising mediums and position the station accordingly.
- Effectively forecast sports sales revenue and manage department expenses so that financial goals are achieved.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, which may include entertaining prospective and existing clients, attending sporting events or other associated functions.
- Collaborate with Scripps senior director sports revenue to support the local station.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
- Generally, 8+ years of experience in related field preferred
- Prior managerial experience preferred
- Experience in Sports Business Sales on League, Team, or Media side with a proven track record exceeding revenue goals
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of Google Office (Sheets, Docs, Slides) and virtual conferencing platforms
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
