Open to:General Public Work Week:NL (35-hour) Work WeekSalary:(P21) $64,340.11 - $94,061.71Opening Date:5/12/2026Closing Date:6/5/2026Existing Vacancies:1Program/Location:Department of Environmental ProtectionManagement & Budget ProgramDivision of Information TechnologyBureau of Geographic Information Systems401 East State StreetTrenton, NJ 08625Scope of Eligibility:Open to applicants who meet the requirements belowDescription:Under supervision of a higher level Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist or other supervisory official, performs professional GIS work relating to the geographic analysis of environmental parameters and or/other factors, image processing, interpretation, and application of remote sensing data; performs geographic data digitizing; operates all computer hardware and software associated with the Geographic Information System; does related duties.Specific to the Position:Candidate will need to understand DEP business needs and determine how the application of GIS technology can improve and expedite permit reviews. The candidate must know ArcGIS Pro and related software, be able to support for web-based GIS, and contribute to application and data development. The position also requires assistance with GIS instruction, as well as serving as a technical advisor for questions and problems that arise with GIS data and software.Preferred Skill Set:Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in database management, Javascript, SQL, Python, HTML, Oracle and Project Management.The successful candidate must be self-motivated, have interpersonal skills and attention to detail.Requirements:NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.Six (6) years of professional experience with geographic information systems, including computer graphics and computer hardware digitizing procedures.ORPossession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.ORPossession of a Master's degree in Geography or Environmental Science including or supplemented by the additional credits indicated below; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.ORPossession of a specific Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science or related field with twelve (12) semester hours in computer mapping/GIS which shall have included spatial programming and digital image processing; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions. NOTE:  All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university.  All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.  Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.LicenseAppointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.Veteran's Preference:To qualify for New Jersey Veteran's Preference/status, you must establish Veteran's Preference through the Department of Military and Veteran's Affairs.
