Job Description

SUMMARY

The Machine Operator is responsible for the overall production and operation of a highly complex converting machine, including set-up, operation, troubleshooting, training, housekeeping and basic crew-level maintenance. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality machine performance within the designated department while supporting overall production goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up, operate, and monitor assigned converting machinery to produce products that meet customer specifications, company quality standards, and production schedules.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report mechanical or electrical issues affecting machine performance, performing basic adjustments when appropriate and escalating maintenance concerns as needed.
  • Inspect product output throughout the production process to ensure compliance with quality standards and promptly report any non-conforming materials or production issues to production management.
  • Accurately record and maintain production data within the designated production software systems to ensure reliable operational reporting and traceability.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient work area by staging materials, managing workflow, and supporting smooth machine operation and production continuity.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines, proactively identifying and reporting safety concerns to minimize workplace risk.
  • Collaborate with production leadership to achieve performance objectives and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, output, and operational effectiveness.
  • Special projects and assignments as business dictates.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 4-6 years of machine operation experience preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Previous experience in a corrugated manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow standard operating procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented production environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of training methods within a manufacturing or production operation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify issues or irregularities during production.
  • Must be able to complete tasks that require a particular speed or productivity quota.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for a prolonged period as well as bending and stooping regularly.
  • The job duties will require the employee to utilize repetitive fine manipulation with hands.
  • The employee must use hands to handle and feel.
  • The employee is frequently required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, distance vision and depth vision.

  • The noise level in the work environment requires the use of hearing protection.
