Job Description

Department: Machine Shop

Reports To: Department Manager

Physical Demand Level: Medium to Heavy

FLSA Status (US only): Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Machine Operator I is responsible for performing the essential manufacturing steps of part trimming and drilling, meeting daily production needs in manufacturing quality parts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Trim plated parts to print specifications utilizing manual and programmable Lathes.
  • Core drill parts using equipment including manual drill presses, lathes and programmable HAAS Drilling machines
  • Program HAAS machines for drilling operations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance including fluid changes, lubrication and cleaning of machines when needed/directed by the Lead / Supervisor
  • Accurately record production information on paper travellers and in the ERP system
  • Maintains a clean machine and organized work area.
  • Makes minor repairs and notifies maintenance for other maintenance needs.
  • Performs variety of tasks such as counting, cleaning, returning gauges and fixtures, transferring of parts
  • Use measuring equipment to maintain close tolerances
  • Follows schedules and procedures
  • Adaptable to cell and team concepts as well as cross-training
  • Sees that all safety guards are in place and in good condition
  • Assists other operators if necessary
  • Inspects work in progress using equipment necessary and outlined in Quality or work instructions. Responsible for quality of own work; required to notify Supervisor or Lead if quality requirement is unclear or questionable
  • All other duties as assigned

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specification sheets, and/or mechanical drawings and in precision measurement or become proficient through training.
  • Computer literacy
  • Capable of using measuring instruments, i.e. micrometer, calipers, comparator, height gauge, etc.
  • Capable of using hand tools (i.e. screwdriver, wrenches etc.)
  • Ability to read and write, perform basic arithmetic and follow verbal and written instructions.

SALARY RANGE:

$18.00 - $21.00/Hour based on experience and ability to perform work independently. 2nd shift will receive a 10% shift premium.

TRAINING:

2nd shift will train on 1st shift (7:00 am - 3:30 pm) 30-60 days before moving to 2nd shift.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Use of vision correction is acceptable, if necessary; however, any vision correction apparatus must meet all safety guidelines for the area of activity.
