Machinist (Wire Electrical Discharge - EDM)

Location: Portsmouth, VAShift: Day Shift 7am-3:30pmType: contract-to-hire

Job Description:You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot Wire EDM machines in the production of high-precision components. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude and be proficient in reading and interpreting complex blueprints to ensure accurate part fabrication.

Responsibilities and Functions:

Set up and operate CNC Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) machines to cut and shape various precision parts
Properly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling
Read and interpret applicable drawings and blueprints of work to be performed and follows instructions
Operates and utilizes lifting aids as necessary to perform work
Use precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.)
Perform daily, regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
Ability to read travelers
Work overtime as needed on evenings and/or weekends

Required Qualifications:

3 to 5 years of Wire EDM process, setup, and maintenance experience
Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GDT)
High school diploma or GED
Must have basic machinist tools
