Primary Responsibilities
The Maintenance Assistant will maintain the grounds, facility, equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, to assure that a successful maintenance program is maintained at all times.
Essential Functions
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with the following duties:
- Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of supervising maintenance tasks.
- Supervise the day-to-day maintenance functions of assigned personnel.
- Assist the Administrator in setting maintenance standards.
- Assist in developing procedures for performing daily maintenance tasks.
- Assist the Administrator in standardizing the methods in which work is accomplished. .
- Coordinate daily maintenance services with nursing services when performing
- maintenance assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas.
- Submit accident/incident reports to the director on the shift in which they occurred.
- Make sure that all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies
- (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
- Make sure that assigned work areas are maintained in a safe and attractive manner.
- Assist in maintaining material safety data sheets (MSDSs) for hazardous chemicals in the maintenance department.
- Make sure that containers of hazardous chemicals in the department are properly labeled and stored.
- Make sure that all maintenance personnel follow established policies governing the use of labels and MSDSs.
- Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Director.
- Make sure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing maintenance procedures.
- Recommend equipment and supply needs to the director.
- Make sure that appropriate personal protective equipment used in the handling
- of infectious materials is available and easily accessible to maintenance personnel.
- Make sure equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
