A Brief Overview
Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and operating steam boilers, hot water boilers, chillers, compressors, fuel supply, medical gas systems and auxiliary equipment.

What you will do
- Observe and read gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of boiler plant operation to ensure that boilers, chillers, and other plant equipment are operating properly
- Operates boilers, pumps, valves, and other equipment in support of plant operations.
- Ensures boiler water treatment is taking place and maintain the records for inspection.
- Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, including test and inspection results.
- Enter detailed data and any equipment malfunction and unplanned maintenance in the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Manages the building automation system to verify system operations throughout the plant to adjust temperature controls and set points for plant operations required to meet the needs of the hospital.
- Identify any deficiencies that may interfere with plant operations.
- Handle hazardous materials in the performance of the work and will be required to perform housekeeping duties to maintain plant cleanliness and report unsafe conditions.
- Makes emergency repair of equipment, or apparatus as required; installs, inspects, maintains and repairs mechanical and fixed equipment as directed, as well as carries out preventive maintenance programs.
- Takes oil analysis samples for visual inspection and sends into labs when required for testing.
- Reports breakdowns requiring outside repair; assists in making major repairs to steam lines; maintains and cleans boilers regularly; cleans fire tubes and flues, using blowers and rods;
- Services compressors, vacuum pumps and other equipment.
- Performs plumbing and steam fitting, alterations and repairs on hot and cold water, sewer, steam process and heating, gas air pressure, vacuum and oxygen systems, chilled water systems, etc.
Education Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Associate degree in Facility Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred
Experience Qualifications
- One (1) to three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and related equipment.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and in situations requiring instructing, conflict resolution and advising
- Ability to prepare clear comprehensive written and oral reports
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches
- Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently to meet deadlines
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to work on equipment located at high elevations and perform moderate lifting
- Ability to travel to various sites to perform job duties
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility
- Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair with the ability to operate
- Knowledge of the hazards involved with hot water, chilled water, fuel supply and processed steam systems.
Licenses and Certifications
- CADL - California Drivers License- Valid And In State required Upon Hire

- Category II - Tasks that involve NO exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $49.35 - $55.58 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
