Job Description

Pay Range:$25.00 - $31.88

Maintenance Mechanic I is an entry level position. This position will assist higher level staff in the maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment and components in the hospital, health centers, or other health care facilities at SEARHC. This position completes work orders for maintenance projects and completes all assigned preventive maintenance tasks performing a wide variety of general maintenance as directed. The position may travel to outlying communities to perform work.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

  • Preventive maintenance. Maintain systems, equipment, and tools as assigned by the Facility Manager. Schedule and complete formal documentation of work completed including collecting data for entry into the PM program.

  • Troubleshooting and repair. Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and repair of systems and components. Troubleshoot and provide minor repairs of heating and cooling systems, boilers, plumbing systems, electrical systems and related equipment.

  • Carpentry. Perform journeyman level carpenter duties as assigned through written and verbal requests from the facility manager. Activities may include concrete work, floor coverings, installing doors, building cabinets, hanging items on walls, installing drop ceilings, drywall repair, painting etc.

  • Work orders. Complete work orders assigned in a timely and professional manner according to priority

  • Tool operation. Operate various shop tools, heavy equipment if applicable; has a working knowledge of table saws, rip saws, jointers, planers, routers, etc. Is able to operate a forklift, dump truck and backhoe.

  • Locksmith. Capable of installing and repairing locks, door closers, making keys and working with lock cores. Responds to emergency requests, maintains records and locksmith supplies.

  • Grounds and Parking Lots. Maintains parking lots and entrances including: snow plowing, applying non-slip materials during icy conditions, landscaping, removal of litter and organic material, lawn care, sign maintenance and stripe painting. These tasks will be assigned by the Facility Manager.

  • Supplies. Identifies and tracks supply needs, orders supplies and tools, researches costs, and provides information for cost effective purchases.

Additional Details:

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • High School diploma or GED - preferred

  • Valid driver's license and remain insurable under the SEARHC automobile insurance policy - required

  • Complete Lockout Tagout online course within 90 days of hire.

  • Complete the eye wash weekly testing competency within 90 days.

  • Safety- 10-hour OSHA Competency completed within 90 days.

  • Life safety 101 Competency completed within 90 days.

Experience

  • No experience required. Mechanical aptitude - preferred

  • Ability to learn to read codes, standards, regulations, construction / mechanical drawings / OEM manuals, specifications, and making basic math calculations.

Knowledge of

  • Basic knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, materials, tools, equipment, used in Facility Maintenance.

  • Basic working knowledge of mechanical systems, groundskeeping, woodworking, drywall repair, painting, etc.

Basic skills in

  • Troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical components.

  • Repairing mechanical and electrical components.

  • Verbal and written communication that includes emailing or texting.

Ability to

  • Perform all the essential duties related to the position's responsibility with direction and oversight.

  • Use and maintain all tools, equipment and vehicles used during routine performance of duties.

  • Maintain professional growth and development through in-service training, seminars, and workshops.

  • Operate small engines, landscaping, chainsaws, snowblowers and hydraulic equipment.

  • Walk extensively on uneven terrain or slippery surfaces, work while bending, stooping, or reaching, and lift 50 lbs.

  • Safely work on equipment in unstable conditions, climb in and out of dump trucks, bob cats, loaders, forklifts, and pick-up trucks.
