Maintenance Worker, Short Term Housing Program

CAMBA serves more than 65,000 individuals and families each year, citywide, including almost 13,000 youth. From homelessness prevention in Staten Island to supportive housing in the Bronx; from employment training in Manhattan to after school programs and college access in Brooklyn; from family shelter and support in Queens to increasing affordable housing across the city, CAMBA provides holistic services to help struggling New Yorkers stabilize their lives and become self-sufficient.

Short Term HousingProgram: CAMBA’s Short Term Housing Program (STHP) provides 35 units of congregate and transitional housing to PLWHA who are homeless or at serious risk of homelessness. There are 7 clients residing at CAMBA’s congregate facility located at 27 Winthrop Street and 28 community apartments. In addition, there are 19 clients residing at 23 and 25 Winthrop. Winthrop Houses provide a model of service that addresses the interrelated problems of HIV and homelessness. Through a congregate residence and community apartments the programs we provide transitional and emergency housing, case management support, and housing readiness training in a supportive environment, which will help clients develop the skills to find and maintain permanent, stable housing.

Location: 27 Winthrop St, Brooklyn, NY 11225

What The Maintenance Worker Does:

• Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and other work areas.
• Perform weekly room inspections for all congregate housing units.
• Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
• Dust furniture and equipment.
• Wash walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
• Ensures that bathroom supplies are always replenished.
• Removes trash and brings trash and waste to disposal area and consolidate for pickup.
• May assist clients in maintaining an appropriate living environment.
• Observe and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
• Keep management inform of dangerous situations.
• Ensure that all rooms have operable smoke detectors.
• Get rooms ready for occupancy within 24 hours.
• Ensure that rooms are equipped with required items at all times.
• Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
• Practice universal precautions.
• Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

• Sufficient education and technical expertise to comprehend written and oral instructions (work orders); basic math to accomplish maintenance tasks and to document accomplished tasks.

Other Requirements:

• Good written & verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Cleaning experience.

Compensation: $22.53 hourly When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
