Job Description

Malama leverages the best of technology and people to deliver exceptional care - we build novel biometric tracking and patient engagement tools that allow skilled Care Managers to provide high-touch care navigation and coordination for pregnant and postpartum mothers that improves health outcomes for mom and baby.

We’ve raised $9.2M in funding to date and are on target to hit profitability early this year. Our mission is to improve pregnancy-related outcomes beginning with conditions that disproportionately affect historically underserved groups.

We're seeking Malama Ambassadors to serve as trusted community connectors between pregnant and postpartum members, local providers, community-based organizations, and Malama. Ambassadors will help build awareness of Malama in their local region by visiting clinics and community organizations, distributing provider kits and outreach materials, attending local events, engaging with mom communities, and helping interested members connect with Malama’s care team.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly community-oriented, organized, comfortable doing outreach, and able to build trust with clinics, community organizations, and families. If you are passionate about reproductive justice, love building relationships, and want your work to directly improve outcomes for Black, Indigenous, and low-income birthing families — this role is for you.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Community Outreach & Relationship Building
    • Conduct in-person outreach at WIC clinics, FQHC waiting rooms, and CBO program sites across assigned counties
    • Build trusted relationships with pregnant and postpartum Medi-Cal members, particularly those who are Black, Indigenous, or from communities of color
    • Distribute Malama provider kits, flyers, stands, stickers, and other outreach materials
    • Represent Malama at community events including baby showers, health fairs, and partner-hosted convenings
    • Identify new local partnership opportunities and share learnings with the Malama team
  • Events & Local Activations
    • Help organize or staff monthly pop-up events, baby supply giveaways, community baby showers, and clinic tabling days
    • Identify local events where Malama should show up
    • Coordinate basic event logistics with support from the Malama team
    • Share photos, learnings, and outcomes from events
    • Help gather feedback from moms and community partners on what resources are most needed
  • Social Media & Community Awareness
    • Engage thoughtfully in local mom groups, Facebook communities, and other online spaces
    • Create simple, authentic content in your own voice to build trust and awareness
    • Share event updates, local resources, postpartum wellness information, and Malama education
    • Help test what types of local content drive engagement and member interest
  • Tracking & Reporting
    • Keep a clear record of outreach activity, including clinics visited, contacts made, materials distributed, events attended, and follow-up needed
    • Participate in regular Malama team check-ins with other ambassadors
    • Share what is working, what is not working, and what the team should test next
    • Help build the first version of Malama’s ambassador playbook

Requirements

  • Required
    • Deep ties to and lived experience in the communities served: Sacramento / San Bernardino / Fresno / Los Angeles / Alameda
    • Commitment to birth equity, reproductive justice, and culturally congruent care
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with diverse populations
    • Ability to travel regularly across assigned counties for partner site visits
    • Comfort with engaging with CBOs, following up, and tracking outreach activities
  • Preferred
    • Current Community Health Worker (CHW) certification OR equivalent community health experience
    • Bilingual or multilingual — Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or other languages spoken in priority counties
    • Prior experience with Medi-Cal, WIC, FQHC, or community-based maternal health programs

Benefits

  • $25.00/hour
  • Part-time (~15 hrs/week) — with opportunities to grow as the program scales
  • Entry-level welcome — no prior CHW experience required if you have community roots and a CHW cert (or equivalent experience)
  • Meaningful community impact — your work directly reduces maternal and infant health disparities
  • Connection to a statewide network of birth equity advocates, doulas, and community health workers
  • Supportive, mission-driven team culture
