Mammographer

Job Summary:

Operates mammography equipment to produce radiographic images of the breast for screening exams under the general supervision of a radiologist.

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs timely screening mammography, with less than 5% repeat rate.
• Enters accurate patient history and charges off exam.
• Explains exam in a manner patients can understand, gains patient cooperation, and reduces patient anxiety.
• Complies with all departmental and hospital policies.
• Performs other duties as required by lead technologist or manager.
• Uses independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited, based on established policies/protocols.
• Works directly with patients and/or customers, as well as internal and external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Zero (0) - six (6) months of related experience.
• Competent to perform screening mammograms on individuals aged 18 - 100 years.
• Demonstrated skills and knowledge of mammography units and basic positioning skills.
• Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work efficiently.
• Detail-oriented in examining clinical and numerical data.

Required Education:

• Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
• Must complete, within nine months from hire date, 40 hours of documented training specific to mammography and 8 hours of modality-specific digital training in accordance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act.

Required Certification & Licensure:

• Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and ARRT Certification in Mammography within nine months from date of hire.
