JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Summary of the Job:

The mammography technologist is responsible for the independent operation of x-ray equipment, using knowledge of positioning patients, general anatomy and physiology,and to record and present images to be reviewed by the Radiologist. They perform a variety of technical procedures in the scope of their position which may include screening and diagnostic mammograms, to include 2D and 3D (tomosynthesis), dexa scans, galactograms, needle localizations, mammogram-guided biopsies and stereotactic biopsy procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with certification in Mammography, and; Licensed by State of Louisiana in Radiologic Technology, and Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Must maintain compliance with the CE and exams performed requirements of their certifying organization.

Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with patients of all types and ages; Must possess strong guest relations skills as excellent communication/social skills are specifically required for the mammography technologist position; Must be able to maintain a high standard of medical ethics at all times; Must be self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer experience in mammography; EPIC experience is a plus.

Physical Demands:

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Constant (67%-100%) - handling/feeling, hearing, seeing

Frequently (34%-66%)- talking

Occasionally (1%-33%)- lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching
