Job Description
The George Washington University MFA has an immediate opening for a Pharmacy Manager for Infusion Services. The position will service as the Pharmacist in Charge for the Ambulatory Infusion Center Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Manager for Infusion Services will be responsible for leading and nurturing individual team members to meet performance and behavioral expectations. Operationally, the individual will be responsible for streamlining the medication use process and implementing innovative practices and technology while being fiscally responsible. The position will maintain a routine staffing component in the infusion center to ensure the individual is an expert on all operational components and can provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients seen at the GWU MFA.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Manager will lead and mentor team members to meet performance and behavioral expectations while ensuring operational excellence. Responsibilities include streamlining medication-use processes, implementing innovative practices and technology, and maintaining fiscal responsibility. The Pharmacy Manager will maintain routine staffing in the infusion center to remain expert in all operational components and provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide and oversee pharmacotherapy for oncology/hematology patients, including chemotherapy management.
- Review medication orders, optimize treatment plans, and provide evidence-based recommendations to physicians and nursing staff.
- Oversee safe handling of chemotherapy and hazardous drugs, ensuring compliance with USP 797/800, OSHA, and DC regulations.
- Lead pharmacy operations, workflow improvements, and maintain high-quality patient care and customer service.
- Educate patients, providers, and staff on disease states, treatment plans, and medication use.
- Maintain accurate documentation in medical records and electronic systems.
- Participate in clinical trials, research protocols, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor pharmacy staff and precept student pharmacists.
- Serve as a resource for drug information, hazardous drug handling, and infusion therapy
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required.
- Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in DC, or eligibility for licensure through reciprocity or board examination (must obtain license within 4 months of employment).
Experience:
- 2-3 years of hospital or infusion pharmacy experience.
Certification (Preferred):
- BCOP and/or BCPS certification.
- Experience with Lynx Mobile, Epic/Beacon, chemotherapy CPOE content development, and clinical trials protocols preferred.
- Strong people management skills.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity needed for operating computers, calculators, and other equipment.
